Orange Dreamsicle Frosting & Dirt Cake

I have baked 3 cakes in the past week, and all for good reason of course! First, I baked an angel food cake with strawberry compote. Then, I baked some funfetti cupcakes with homemade orange dreamsicle frosting. And finally, I made dirt cake!

Orange Dreamsicle Frosting:
(Servings: 24 cupcakes)

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp orange extract
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

Cream the sugar and butter for 3 minutes. Add the vanilla and orange extract. Slowly add in the cream using only enough to get the desired consistency. Do not over mix!

Dirt Cake:
(Servings: 24)

2 clean garden/beach buckets
1 devil’s food cake mix
1 can diet cola
2 egg whites
20 oreos
1 pkg chocolate pudding mix
2 cups skim milk
1 tub fat-free cool whip, thawed
gummy worms

To make the cake:
Mix the cake mix, diet cola, and egg whites for 2 minutes with an electric mixer on medium. Bake in a greased 9×13 pan for 25-30 minutes. Let cool completely.

Everything else:
Crush the oreos until they are in broken pieces. Prepare the chocolate pudding as directed on the package. (Whisk the pudding mix and milk together for 2 minutes.) Fold 1/3 of the oreo crumbs into the pudding. Fold 1/3 of the oreo crumbs into the cool whip.

Layer the cake, pudding, cool whip, and a few gummy worms a couple of times in a clean bucket. (I ended up using two because one bucket was not big enough) Once you have used all of that up, cover the top with the remaining oreo crumbs and remaining gummy worms. Make sure that you store the cake in the fridge until you are ready to serve!
